DHMO

As the link on Alan's blog showed me, humanity is at a great risk, perhaps greater than all the risks from science and nature that we have ever seen, from a compound called dihydrogen monoxide. This chemical has many deadly properties (as seen on Wikipedia):
  1. The substance is a major component of acid rain.
  2. Contributes to soil erosion.
  3. Accelerates corrosion and breakdown of metals and electrical equipment.
  4. Excessive ingestion may cause various unpleasant, though generally not life-threatening, effects.
  5. Prolonged contact with its solid form results in severe tissue damage.
  6. May cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
  7. Inhalation, even in small quantities, may cause death.
  8. Its gaseous form may cause severe burns.
  9. It has been found in the tumors of terminal cancer patients.
  10. Withdrawal by those addicted to the substance causes certain death within 168 hours.
Yet despite all of this, the uses of dihydrogen monoxide are varied and growing:
  1. As an industrial solvent and coolant,
  2. In nuclear power plants,
  3. In the production of styrofoam,
  4. As a fire retardant,
  5. In many forms of cruel animal research,
  6. In the distribution of pesticides,
  7. As an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products,
  8. Large quantities of the substance are dumped into rivers and streams by factories.
It is us, the children of our parents, who will inherit the Earth. As you can see, if we don't stop the use of DHMO, it will be a very bleak Earth indeed. Please visit this website for more information.

I think we'd all be dead by now if all of that were true. If i've been eating the stuff in its solid form in junk food and it causes burns, I think my tongue would be gone. Personally I think it's mostly bullshit, but i bet there's some truth to it. Oh well. If there's any evidence of any of that except for the post on wikipedia, than i'm all for it. But right now, it seems to me like it was some green treehugger trying to ban technology.
